Saturday 5th of November was the 10th anniversary of the death of activist Barry Horne

November 12th, 2011 · No further remarks

REMEMBER, REMEMBER

Saturday 5th of November was not just the 406th anniversary of an attempt by a group of religious zealots to seize power, it was also the 10th anniversary of the death of activist Barry Horne (see SchNEWS 330).

Barry died while on hunger strike in Full Sutton Prison, protesting against Neo-Labour’s support of the vivisection industry. This was despite them promising (before they got into power mind) that they would bring the practice to an end. At the time Barry was serving 18 years for firebombing a number of branches of Boots, who were still testing on animals.

Around 200 marched to Huntingdon Life Sciences, while many other demos, actions and gigs (including the SchNEWS benefit) were dedicated to the memory of the man whose commitment brought international media attention and served as motivation for countless activists.

And sadly his battle still needs fighting; HLS are still going – so if you want to carry on Barry’s work see http://speakcampaigns.org

Dear family of Troy Davis …

September 22nd, 2011 · No further remarks

A mail I sent in support of Troy’s family:

Dear family of Troy Davis:

I would like to express my support for you. What happened to Troy is unbelievable, and it’s horrible that the life of a person becomes displayed so publicly. And what’s even worse is that an injustice like this was carried out in all public.

The people though showed where they stand and they stand on Troy’s side.

We all share his side, the one side of justice. And we will keep up his ideals and hopes for justice to be done in his case and in every case where humans rights are at steak.

The Mac Phail family made themselves guilty. Now they can never find any peace, because they are part of a murder case. They can’t escape the scales of a universal justice.

All my thoughts are with Troy – wherever a person goes when he passes away, we will stick to the ones we love, like, care about … . And I hope they will stick with us too … .

LOVE TO ALL OF YOU
Palang LY Arani-May Germany www.simorgh.de

This blog entry mirrors the feelings very good that millions of people shared last night with Troy. We all stand together.

Troy Davis: a life extinguished, a campaign that isn’t

I put this on our German blog last night. We had hundreds of accesses for Troy. People in Germany are totally into his case, and his case is of course not over and not over as long as injustice is happening in the name of whatsoever:

Visit: http://twitter.com/#!/amnesty and http://twitter.com/#!/naacp especially for updates.

Democracy might fail its test today, not because of the people, but because of the mighty.

Vigils and Demos take place on an international level. Still the White House hasn’t intervened yet.

I ask: Will the understanding of human rights as we knew it in the western hemisphere completely fail this time?

Sohana Jawed, 9 year old girl who was forced to wear an explosive jacket

June 26th, 2011 · No further remarks

The tragic of being a girl in an islamic country:

“Instead of detonating the jacket, after getting out of the car, the child started shouting and running towards the paramilitary frontier corps soldiers stationed at the… post,” the officer said. Read the article on the CNN site.

Another such case happened today again, but this time in Afghanistan, and this time the child was killed:

Afghan Officials Say Girl Tricked Into Being Suicide Bomber
Insurgents reportedly gave 8-year-old bomb, detonated it remotely when she approached police. Read the article on the Slate site.

ok, now where is the outcry about human rights abuses from the islamic side? To expect that would be to expect an oxymoron to become even with itself I guess.

Iranian activist Bita Ghaedi has received a new date for deportation

May 1st, 2010 · No further remarks

Iranian activist Bita Ghaedi has received a new date for deportation after her removal scheduled for the 20th was cancelled due to the volcanic ash cloud.

Bita, a fervent campaigner against the regime in Iran, had her application for asylum rejected in April after the UK Border Agency placed her application on the fast track scheme – a process that sees over 90% of claims rejected (see SchNEWS 709). She was arrested in a dawn raid and taken to Yarl’s Wood detention centre.

According to her partner, Mohsen, she is in a critical mental and physical condition. Because of Bita’s campaigning, she is seen as a ‘Mohareb’ – an enemy of God – by the Iranian regime. This is punishable by death.

Bita is due to be deported on flight BD931, leaving Heathrow at 19.00 on 5th of May. Campaigners have called for demonstration outside the Home Office in Marsham Street for this morning (30th) at 11am.

*The deportation of Sunny Idika, who was taken to Birmingham prison following last week’s disturbance after the death of a Kenyan detainee at Oakington detention centre (see SchNEWS 719), was cancelled on Monday (26th).

Cambridge Migrant Solidarity and No Borders activists had gathered at the airport for a last ditch attempt to prevent the deportation, but shortly after arriving they found out that Sunny had been taken from the airport to Colnbrook. He remains at risk. There have been rumours that further deportations of detainees involved in the Oakington protests are imminent.

a poem for Neda , by Davoud Bahrami

June 25th, 2009 · No further remarks

I couldn’t fall asleep last night
the drunken laughter of Khomeini
Deep down
From his sticky tomb
Was too loud

Neda,
When your blood
Shed the love worshiping ground of Iran
Still, I thought he was dead

The blush burst of the sun
On the impatient sky
At dawn, suddenly
Reminded me
Of his raised long cracked glass
Overfilled with the blood of Iranian youth
Commemorating Mohammad’s invasion
1,400 past years
And his grim smile toasting
At each cry of Allah-o Akbar

It is now another lovely day
And you are absent at your philosophy class
I wonder if it had made any difference
If you’d double majored in history
Would you had seen the innumerous Neda’s blood
Dripping from his fangs?
