Another such case happened today again, but this time in Afghanistan, and this time the child was killed:

Afghan Officials Say Girl Tricked Into Being Suicide Bomber
Insurgents reportedly gave 8-year-old bomb, detonated it remotely when she approached police. Read the article on the Slate site.

ok, now where is the outcry about human rights abuses from the islamic side? To expect that would be to expect an oxymoron to become even with itself I guess.

A hunger strike by 6 Iranian asylum seekers, five of whom have sewn theirmouths shut, is currently in progress in London. Three are camping outside Amnesty International’s offices in Clerkenwell, and three are at the Home Office in Croydon. The action mirrors a similar hunger strike in Greece last October, where seven Iranian men and women sewed their mouths closed in a demonstration of defiance against the Greek authorities’ lack ofrecognition of Iranian asylum seekers.

The protesters in London are members of Green Wave Voice, an organisationprotesting against the results of the Iranian presidential election in 2009, and haven’t eaten since 5th April. Two of the men were taken to hospital by the police but refused to let doctors remove the stitches. All 6 have recently had their asylum applications turned down and instructed toleave the UK immediately, despite overwhelming evidence that they would be almost certain to be imprisoned, and even executed, if forced to return to Iran.

Refugees continue hunger strike in Croydon town centre

A former Iranian wrestling champion who fears death if he returns to his country began his eleventh day of a hunger strike in Croydon town centre this morning.

Keyvan Bahariz, who bears scars on his back from a savage beating at the hands of the Iranian authorities, has sewn his mouth closed to raise awareness of the lack of free speech and human rights in his homeland.

Mr Bahariz and five of his countrymen launched the hunger strike after being refused asylum by the UK Border Agency.

Fellow students Mehran Meyari, 19, and his 17-year-old brother Mahyar are also living on just water in the tent on Wellesley Road, within metres of the UKBA headquarters at Lunar House.

The older brother said: “They will kill us if we go back.

Statement by Iranian Human Rights Activist in North America on the occasion of International Human Rights Day

D/L as PDF: in English — in Persian

December 9, 2010

December 10 is International Human Rights Day; A day to safeguard all the achievements to humanize the world. Without a doubt this struggle symbolizes the most valor aspect of human beings in their attempts to bring about peace, freedom, social justice and human greatness to the world. Of course present situation in the world especially those of the less developed emerging countries is far from this desire. That is why all attempts by the people of these countries require the support of those countries who poses a higher standard of value for human rights.

The review of the Islamic Republic in the past 32 years shows systematic and organized abuse of human rights where the regime has always resorted to violent crackdown against demands for freedom by its people. Hostility to human rights is at the structural and legal core of the Islamic Republic. As we approach the International Human Rights day, our country is living at the darkest moment in terms of respect for human rights. The high and shameful volume of executions, making it the highest number in the world, Imprisonment of hundreds of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience, gender discrimination, harassment of the Baha’is, new Christians, Jews and the Zoroastrian religious minorities, and censorship of the press, suppression of ethnic minorities, usage of physiological and physical torture, forced confession and making the prisoners to repent, issuing harsh and barbaric verdicts such as stoning and severing body parts, interfering in private domain and social freedom, attack on the universities and depriving the student leaders from continued education, expulsion of independent university professors in the context of forced retirement, interference of government in modification of social science text books, arrest of independent volunteer lawyers, ideological and gender discrimination in accepting students in the universities, violent crackdown of peaceful gatherings, preventing formation of workers syndicates, banning and dissolving all independent associations, political and opposition parties, are just a few examples of present dark days in Iran.

Therefore, we a group of human rights organizations active in North America, worried about the condition of human rights in Iran remind the regime of the Islamic Republic, to respect the rights and to end its disregard for the human rights of the Iranian people. This is not only the call by the Iranian people but also by other countries as well. We demand that the UN Secretary General and the European Union pressure Iran on its human rights condition and not be deceit by Iran’s release of a few prisoners. Presence of a special UN rapporteur and the freedom by it to monitor and collect information can be a good beginning. Certainly the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees, Political and Conscience, along with removal of limitations against press, student organizations, trade unions, political and human rights organizations, is a precondition to better the condition of human rights situation in Iran. We also demand that death penalty be abolished in Iran. Increase in the crime rate in Iran, rejects the claim that such punishment will solve the social problems as claimed by those favoring it, but rather will increase the atmosphere of hatred in our society.

We learn from the UN Declaration of Human Rights that materialization of a world with free expression and opinion and without fear and poverty is the highest human desire. In the excruciating condition in Iran where the regime utilizing all means against the human rights defenders inside Iran, where achievement of the rights by our fellow countrymen for freedom is nearly impossible, it is our duty to coordinate our effort outside Iran with the help of International Community to echo the voices of the people for freedom and dignity and to pressure the Islamic Republic to respect the human rights of Iranian people.

Iranian activist Bita Ghaedi has received a new date for deportation after her removal scheduled for the 20th was cancelled due to the volcanic ash cloud.

Bita, a fervent campaigner against the regime in Iran, had her application for asylum rejected in April after the UK Border Agency placed her application on the fast track scheme – a process that sees over 90% of claims rejected (see SchNEWS 709). She was arrested in a dawn raid and taken to Yarl’s Wood detention centre.

According to her partner, Mohsen, she is in a critical mental and physical condition. Because of Bita’s campaigning, she is seen as a ‘Mohareb’ – an enemy of God – by the Iranian regime. This is punishable by death.

Bita is due to be deported on flight BD931, leaving Heathrow at 19.00 on 5th of May. Campaigners have called for demonstration outside the Home Office in Marsham Street for this morning (30th) at 11am.

*The deportation of Sunny Idika, who was taken to Birmingham prison following last week’s disturbance after the death of a Kenyan detainee at Oakington detention centre (see SchNEWS 719), was cancelled on Monday (26th).

Cambridge Migrant Solidarity and No Borders activists had gathered at the airport for a last ditch attempt to prevent the deportation, but shortly after arriving they found out that Sunny had been taken from the airport to Colnbrook. He remains at risk. There have been rumours that further deportations of detainees involved in the Oakington protests are imminent.

Iran Human Rights, November 13: According to some sources in Iran, the Kurdish political prisoner Shirkooh (Bahman) Moarefi has been transferred to solitary confinement being prepared for execution. According to these sources Mr. Moarefi could be executed in the coming days.

Shirko Moarefi (30) is a Kurdish civil rights activist sentenced to death y the Iranian authorities convicted of “Moharebeh” (war against God).

Mr. Moarefi’s defence lawyer, Ahmad Saeed Sheikhi, told radio Zamaneh (an exile radio-website) that he has not been informed by the authorities that his client is going to be executed, but the ppossibility is there that Mr. Moaredi could be executed soon.

Iranian authorities have often executed prisoners without informing their lawyers.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights said: “We are very concerned about Shirkoo Moarefi and 12 other Kurdish prisoners who are at imminent danger of execution.” He added:” We have also heard that many prisoners could be executed in near future in Tehran. UN must urgently send a special envoy to Iran to visit the Iranian prisons especially the prisons in Kurdistan and Tehran”.

Last Wednesday, Ehsan Fattahian, another Kurdish political prisoner was executed in Sanandaj (capital of the Iranian Kurdistan).

URGENT: A KURDISH POLITICAL PRISONER IS SCHEDULED TO BE EXECUTED ON NOVEMBER 11 IN IRAN

Tuesday 10 November 2009

Iran Human Rights, November 9: According to sources in Iran, the Kurdish political prisoner Ehsan (Esmail) Fattahian (28) is scheduled to be executed on Wednesday November 11 in Sanandaj. According to these sources Ehsan Fattahian has started a “dry” hunger strike since Sunday November 8., in protest to the scheduled execution.

Ehsan Fattahian is convicted of “moharebeh” (at war with God) and connection with a Kurdish opposition group.

According to a statement by Amnesty International, Ehsan (Esma’il) Fattahian’s lawyer has been summoned to attend his execution on 11 November at the prison in the city of Sanandaj, the provincial capital of Kordestan. Ehsan Fattahian was detained some time between April and August 2008. Reports suggest that he may have been tortured in detention. Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment to be served in exile, after a trial in which he was denied access to a lawyer. Both Ehsan Fattahian and the prosecutor appealed against this verdict, and in January 2009 Branch 4 of the Kordestan Appeal Court overturned the initial verdict. Instead he was sentenced to death for “enmity against God” in connection with his membership of an illegal armed opposition group – believed to be the the Kurdistan Independent Life Party (PJAK. This new sentence is believed to have been upheld by the Supreme Court.

Accordign to Amnesty International’s statement two other Iranian Kurdish men Habibollah Latifi, arrested in October 2007, and Sherko Moarefi, detained in October 2008, are also feared to be at imminent risk of execution, possibly in reprisal for a spate of assassinations and attempted assassinations of officials which took place in September.

Iran Human Rights urges UN, EU ad the international community to put pressure on the Iranian authorities in order to halt Ehsan’s execution.
