The American Revolution - The Making of America and Her Independence
"The American Revolution had a great influence on liberal thought throughout Europe. The struggles and successes of the youthful democracy were much in the minds of those who brought about the French Revolution, and most assuredly later helped to inspire revolutionists in Spain's American colonies."
The Songs of Insects, by Lang Elliott and Wil Hershberger
A wonderful and highly interesting collection of the INCREDIBLY different sounds of Crickets, Katydids and Cicadas communicating. The authors hold the more general view that the sounds that insects produce, solely serve the insects biological survival pattern. Nevertheless, the obeservational studies by Elliott and Hershberger seem to have been undertaken with respect towards their studied object. The collection of sounds that the authors brought together, conveys incredibly much about the awsome manifoldness that the "animal world" entails.

NPR : 'Operation Homecoming': The Writings of War
The poem about THE CAT by Ryan Alexander, who fought in Irak, is extremely deep and touching and it shows how the relation towards animals can be a deeply positive one. And, regarding the theme of literature by those who fought at a war overall: I always wondered what type of thoughts people had who fought in WW2 against nazi germany. The past is can never be only a historical fact. Everything is a continuum.

Giving a prize is always kind of a political or anti-political tool. Anti-political, cos it seeks to manipulate others into acknowledging that whtat is being acknowledged by the comitee, etc.
